Our Work

Strategy for Scale is here to partner with you — whether you’re a new philanthropist ready to activate your giving, a foundation exploring big questions, or an innovator looking to make philanthropy better. We build custom engagements across three key areas to meet your specific goals and unique needs.

Philanthropic Activation

We specialize in working with new donors, welcoming them into the field of philanthropy, moving through personal barriers and advising on best practice.

Sample Engagements:

  • Individual or family advising to begin effective giving practices. We’ll help you get organized, activated, and connected to the right support and operational model.

  • Cohort-based learning for new or emerging women donors. Gathering women together to investigate ways to unlock and advance giving, especially for those at the earliest stage.

  • Helping more multi-stakeholder initiatives strategically launch. See: The Seed Fund at the Global Development Incubator.

Sector Innovation

Working in partnership with many others, we look for opportunities to advance the sector and activate more philanthropists by lifting up patterns and identifying opportunities for greater understanding and innovation.

Sample Engagements:

  • Understanding current philanthropic trends. The current philanthropic marketplace is changing quickly. We look to find patterns and predictions to support our collective understanding of needs and opportunities. See some of our research here.

  • Launching new efforts (technologies, products and services) that support the philanthropic sector, with the specific purpose of activating more philanthropy. See Redwoods Collective to activate climate philanthropy.

  • Exploring the need for new philanthropic infrastructure. Donors are increasingly turning to philanthropic advisors and lean staffs to manage their giving. We identified significant infrastructure needs to help this new professional class activate philanthropy.

  • Highlighting the role of philanthropic collaboratives in creating impact. Collaboratives have grown exponentially in the past five years. While it is a nascent field, we work to ensure donors can understand the role of collaboratives in the ecosystem, find and fund them.

Advising

We provide limited advising hours (like office hours) for donors and doers interested in collaboration and strategic consultation.

“Kimberly is an exceptional strategist. She has an unmatched ability to listen, interpret, and lead with grace and agility. There is no better partner in the effort to do good.”

— Nick Tedesco, President & CEO of the National Center for Family Philanthropy
